
Dean Copelan joined Cumberland Trust in 2026 as Assistant Vice President and Trust Officer. As a member of the Personal Trust Administration team, he is responsible for administering trust accounts and working closely with clients and their financial, legal, and tax advisors. Dean is committed to providing attentive, responsive service and values building strong, lasting relationships with clients.
Dean brings more than 25 years of experience in legal and banking roles related to estate planning and trust and estate administration. Prior to joining Cumberland Trust, he served as a senior lecturer in business law and business ethics at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. Earlier in his career, Dean practiced as an estate planning attorney with several law firms in the Atlanta and Macon areas. He also held roles as a trust and estate advisor and legal counsel for large banking institutions in Atlanta and Macon, administering personal trusts and estates and advising on fiduciary matters.
Dean earned a B.B.A. degree in Accounting from Georgia College & State University. He received his J.D., cum laude, from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University and holds a LL.M. degree in Estate Planning from the University of Miami.
