The benefits of an independent corporate trustee.

Cumberland Trust’s relationship-based approach to personal trust administration can help to preserve wealth and protect harmony. Working alongside a client’s chosen team of financial, legal, and tax advisors, we provide experienced trust and estate administration, compassionate hands-on service, guidance, and support through life’s transitions.

Freedom To Choose Advisors

Our directed trust model integrates seamlessly with a client’s existing advisory team. Our collaborative relationship with a client’s financial, legal, and tax advisors provides freedom and flexibility, resulting in a team of experts working together to provide support.

Responsive, Experienced Trust Professionals Providing Bespoke Solutions

When a client needs distribution decisions or strategic support, we provide creative solutions with care and efficiency, offering flexibility and attentiveness for time-sensitive needs.

Continuity Across Generations

As a corporate entity, we offer longevity and stability for lasting trust relationships. With more than 25 years of operations and executives averaging 30+ years in the trust and estate administration industry, we deliver the continuity that helps protect legacy and wealth transfer goals.

Experience and Diplomacy When Sensitive Dynamics Arise

We act as a neutral trustee, implementing the grantor’s wishes objectively and thoughtfully to promote harmony.

Trust Officers Who Know Your Name

We maintain fewer client relationships than many larger institutions. This approach gives the trust officer time to listen, understand each individual’s situation, answer questions thoroughly, and build the kind of trustee relationship you deserve.

How we work with you.

Sole Trustee

As an independent trustee, we administer trusts according to the terms and governing law. We work with beneficiaries fairly and impartially with neutrality, consistency, and care.

As co-trustee, we serve alongside a family member or other individual. This setup is ideal for clients who want the personal involvement of a family member or individual with the objectivity and technical expertise of a corporate trustee.

As an estate executor or postmortem trustee, we ensure assets are collected and properly administered, obligations are satisfied, and property is distributed to or for the beneficiary(ies). This role eases the burden while ensuring estate plans are carried out.

As an agent-to-trustee or an executor, we can provide technical support for duties such as fiduciary accounting, maintaining records, fulfilling distributions, and facilitating tax reporting.

Nationwide reach from trust-friendly Tennessee.

We are headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with an additional 10 offices throughout the country. Our experienced team of 140+ professionals works with clients and their advisors nationwide.

WHY CUMBERLAND TRUST

Trust and estate administration services built for families and advisors.

Lower Client-to-Officer Ratios to Support Relationship Building

Our trust officers build lasting relationships with beneficiaries, offering individualized service and responsive support. With a low client-to-staff ratio, we provide attentive, flexible solutions tailored to each client’s unique circumstances.

Focus on Administration, Not Investment Management

Our directed trustee model sets us apart by ensuring trust and estate administration remains independent from investment management. This structure allows families to retain their established trusted financial, legal, and tax advisors while we focus solely on specialized administration. Our advisor-friendly model ensures our role remains objective and client-centered.

Experience in the Administration of Trusts with Complex Assets and Holdings

Real estate, timberland, mineral rights, and closely-held businesses—we administer trusts and estates that own illiquid or hard-to-value assets. These assets are frequently an integral part of a family’s history, with sentimental value that might even outweigh monetary value. Our special assets team has more than 25 years of experience serving as a good steward of these types of holdings.

Service Built on Longevity and Innovation

Established in 2001, we combine experience and continuity with an entrepreneurial, forward-thinking approach. Choosing Cumberland Trust means gaining the strength of an established corporate fiduciary with the ability to provide tailored client solutions.

Adherence to Strict Governance and Accountability Standards

Unlike friends or family members serving as individual fiduciaries, we’re a regulated, state-chartered trust company. This accountability assures neutrality, transparency, and professional trustee governance.
